About Robert Holton

Robert J. Holton, President and Founder of The Westborough Group, has spent the last few decades providing consultation to families who own businesses. As second-generation in a family that has built dozens of family-owned firms, he has witnessed the success of firms spanning from masonry restoration to recruitment services, and from catering to contracting. He worked for two different firms owned by his father, and then was a Vice President in the Private Client Group of Johnson Financial, owned by the S.C. Johnson family. He currently works as Vice President of R&R Wealth Management, owned by the Riesch family, third-generation family owners of R&R Insurance. He received his Master of Business Administration from Marquette University and is also a Certified Wealth Strategist®.

Robert has authored articles on family-business dynamics that have appeared in national and international publications including Family Business, Wealth Management, Trust & Estates, Tharawat, and Family Business United. He is a frequent speaker on family-business dynamics and provides ongoing consultation to a number of family-owned firms.

Leading generation owned portfolio of fast-food franchise operations.

Upon the successful exit from the majority of the portfolio, provided advice to the leading

generation on wealth management, philanthropic goals, and estate coordination.

Provided in-person education and ongoing resources to second and third generation members

of the family to ensure financial acumen, detail generational differences, set context for wealth

transition and shift focus from entitlement to stewardship.

Invited by CFO to assist with transition from third to fourth generation leadership for this

specialty construction firm. After consultation with third generation owners,

worked with fourth generation to establish a path toward business leadership

transition.

Working through family dynamics that included continued the second-generation involvement,

provided direct, actionable advice to allow fourth generation to move into executive roles.

Provide ongoing business guidance through involvement on the company board of directors.

Approached by third generation leadership to assist with transition to fourth generation

leadership for this niche food production firm. Completed full interviews with all parties, including firm leadership and family members outside the firm and proposed potential

transition plans.

Provide third generation with plan to meet personal desires post-retirement, philanthropic

intent, and family needs considering business interests and real estate holdings.  Provide fourth-generation insight into challenges involved with intergenerational business ownership transfer.
